WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO

As a member of NASA's 2021 Astronaut Candidate Class, he trains for future spaceflight missions; as an active-duty Air Force officer he is also a test pilot with more than 1,400 flight hours in over 21 aircraft types and 110+ combat missions.

HOW THEY ENTERED THE INDUSTRY

Commissioned through the Air National Guard in 2008, he trained as an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter pilot, became an Air Force test pilot, and was selected by NASA for its 2021 astronaut class — the second Puerto Rican ever selected to become an astronaut, after Joseph Acaba.
